New Year message from Daya Thayan, CEO Kingsley Group

Kingsley Healthcare CEO Daya Thayan hailed the company’s 20th anniversary year as “recognition of who we are and what we have become”.

He said 2019 had been a year to “showcase our achievements and the dedication and hard work of our 1,700-plus
colleagues”.

“Our achievements have again been recognised in the sector through such honours as our carehome.co.uk Top 20 Large Care Home Groups status and my nomination for the Health Investor Power Fifty awards,” he said.

“However, the achievement we should always be most proud of is the difference we make to the lives of the people in our care and the support we give to the families and the communities we serve.” Mr Thayan said 2019 had been a year of significant advancement for Kingsley, cementing its position as a major employer across East Anglia and growing player in the North West, Midlands and on the South Coast.

“The year has seen us launch an exciting new brand, Kingsley Home Care, and we have started work on a new flagship nursing home in Brackley, Northamptonshire, as well as completing a stunning new-build and improvement scheme at Highcliffe Nursing Home, in Dorset,” he said.

“Importantly, through restructuring our operations team and appointing key new staff we have started a determined and successful drive to take our service standards to a new level – we are already seeing the results with good CQC reports at Woodbridge and Highcliffe which was judged outstanding for its responsiveness.”

Mr Thayan said while Kingsley had developed into a national operator, it was still just as committed to Lowestoft where it had started with the purchase of Lilac Lodge care home in 1999.

He said: “From January, our head office, Kingsley House, will be open six days a week and in June we hope to make that seven days a week.
“Our aim is to create more jobs for local people with part-time and flexi-time opportunities that might appeal to working mothers.”

He said 2020 would also see Kingsley relentlessly pursuing its 2025 vision towards doubling the size of the group. “We are poised to announce three land acquisitions for new-build homes and we are looking to quickly add a further two new-build projects,” he said.

“Early in the year we will be opening a second Kingsley Home Care branch in Diss to cover Norfolk and Suffolk; our live-in care service already operates countrywide and we will be expanding that as well.”

Kingsley Home Care Services was today proud to support the launch of Living Wage Week at a special event in Salford which is campaigning to be the first Living Wage City.

Business development manager John Burke and Tracy Adamson, manager of Kingsley Home Care Services’ first branch in Partington, Manchester, met City Mayor of Salford Paul Dennett along with representatives of other firms paying the Living Wage.

Mr Burke said: “When Kingsley Healthcare Group launched the business in July we were proud to commit to the living wage – all our staff are paid a minimum of £9.50 an hour compared to the living wage rate of £9.30.”

The real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum.

Since 2011 the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 160,000 people and put over £800m extra into the pockets of low paid workers.

Katherine Chapman, Director, Living Wage Foundation said: “We’re delighted that Kingsley Home Care Services has joined the movement of over 5,000 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on.

National care homes group Kingsley Healthcare is to launch an innovative new home care service in the North-West next month

The first branch of Kingsley Home Care Services Limited will be based in Wood Lane, Partington, next to Kingsley’s flagship nursing home Four Oaks.

Newly-appointed branch manager Tracy Adamson has already started recruiting carers and she is looking forward to meeting prospective clients at the service’s stand at the Royal Cheshire Show on June 18 and 19.

She said: “I am delighted to have joined the team at Kingsley Home Care Services right at the start of an exciting journey.

“Kingsley is already a trusted name in the care home market and we are bringing all that expertise to bear in our new venture.

“I am looking forward to telling show goers all about the innovative aspects of our new service, which, in the near future, will include the use of cutting-edge smart technology. This will allow the monitoring of everything from medication and sleep to temperatures around the home –all affording both clients and their families much greater assurance.”

She said as well as offering hourly care and live in care, Kingsley Home Care Services would also be supplying a concierge service to provide clients with an extra tier of support.

The new business, headed by Kingsley co-founder Sumi Thayan as CEO, will be launched in Cheshire and subsequently rolled out nationally with further branches in counties as far afield as Suffolk, Norfolk, Dorset and Buckinghamshire.

Mrs Thayan said: “We are tremendously excited to be building on the Kingsley brand during what is our 20th anniversary year. We will be bringing our trusted values as a family owned business to our new venture.”

Kingsley Healthcare started in Suffolk with one care home but has grown into a national group employing more than 1,600 people, providing residential, dementia and nursing care.

Ms Adamson, who has nearly 25 years’ experience working in the care sector, said she had known from a young age that she wanted to work in the care sector with older people.

“I feel the journey I have had, from initially starting employment as a care assistant at 18 years old through to senior carer, care co-ordinator and then into management, gives me the hands on experience to really understand the requirements of our service users and staff,” she said.
