The front garden that was once Doreen Butters’ pride and joy had become so overgrown she was ashamed to welcome visitors to her home in Hollingsworth Road, Lowestoft.
But now thanks to the hard work of the Kingsley Home Care team, the lawn has been neatly cut and the flower beds dug and de-weeded.
Kingsley Home Care Services’ Chief Operating Officer Georgina Johnston overheard the 79-year-old bemoaning the state of her garden when she dropped into their town centre office to book a care package.
She said: “Doreen can’t manage the garden these days because she is too unsteady on her feet. She was having trouble finding someone to do it so I thought, ‘we will do it for her as a nice surprise at no charge’.
“As a company we are proud of our family values and are always looking to go the extra mile for our clients.”
The team, who moved into their London Road North offices last year, planned their own version of 60 Minute Makeover calling on gardeners from sister company Kingsley Healthcare to help them.
Miss Butters, who receives weekly visits from home carers Nicole Astbury and Ryan Branch, who help with her shopping and household chores, said: “I was amazed by their generosity. What a kind thought. I have got a special name for them now – my Doreen’s Angels.”
When the team arrived on Friday <6 Sept) to start work, they first surprised her with gifts of flowers and a flower-themed cake. Their work is not finished yet as they plan to return to tackle the back garden too!
